Keep the following tips in mind while waiting for your appointment to help preserve the affected tooth:

1. Knocked-Out Tooth

Pick the tooth up by the crown or top and don’t touch the root. Rinse it carefully and place in a small container with water or in a cup of milk.

2. Tooth That is Out of Alignment (Loose Tooth)

Gently move the tooth back to its original position. Once you’re in the dentist’s office they will place a splint to stabilize it.

3. Fractured Tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply cold compress so that the tooth and gums won’t swell. If there’s pain, you can take an acetaminophen.

4. Chipped Tooth

If there’s no pain, a chipped tooth doesn’t necessarily require emergency treatment. But you need to make sure you don’t chew food in that side of your mouth to avoid aggravating the problem. During your appointment, your dentist will add a filling or smoothen out the chip.
